Projects for Families

Ready to Read!

The Ready to Read! Project helps to improve the reading skills of children (at Key Stage 1) who have English as a second language. The project empowers parents to become more confident at reading with their children and to engage positively with their child’s school.

The project's objectives are to:

  • Improve childrens’ reading skills.
  • Increase parents’ confidence and ability to do ‘guided reading’ with their child.
  • Raise the number of contact hours parents spend with their child reading.
  • Increase parents’ support in their child’s learning and development.

We Offer:

  • Intensive intervention to small groups of parents & children.
  • Weekly parent & child (family) reading sessions and a Phonics & English session for parents-only over an 11 week period.
  • A family learning experience which individual families can further develop, upon completion of the programme.
  • Family outings.
  • The opportunity for parents to raise their literacy skills and their capacity to support their children’s education.
  • Assistance to hard-to-reach families to help them engage with their child’s school in a positive and supportive way.
